Social scientists

QuestionAnswer
History learning from inquiry (the seeking of the knowledge or truth)
Civilization A human society that has a COMPLEX CULTURAL, POLITICAL, and LEGAL organization.
Ancient History The EARLIEST HUMANS through the first great civilizations.
Lascaux, France Four boys found a cave with clues about what life was like long ago.
Social Scientists Scholars who STUDY HUMAN SOCIETY. They ask questions, study the evidence for clues, and form hypotheses (educated guesses).
Archeologists Study the past by EXAMINING OBJECTS that people have left behind. These are called artifacts.
Artifacts Anything MADE OR USED BY PEOPLE, such as clothing, tools, weapons, and coins. When Archeologist find an artifact they wonder: Who lived in this place? When did they live? What were they like? then they study the Artifacts for clues.
Historians The RECORDERS of the past. They wonder WHY EVENTS HAPPENED the way they did.
Geographers Study the NATURAL FEATURES of the earth, such as water, landforms, plants, and animals. They also look at HUMAN MADE FEATURES, such as towns, roads, bridges, and dams. Geographers CREATE MAPS from what they have learned.
Prehistoric times BEFORE WRITTEN history
Ritual Relating to a CEREMONY, such as a religious ceremony.
Cave Paintings Showed what ANIMALS roamed the earth, HOW PEOPLE HUNTED, and offered hints about WHAT PEOPLE BELIEVED.
