Commutative Property (multiplication and addition) | Grouping does matter. 9+(4+0)=9+(0+4) |
Distributive Property (multiplication and addition) | Where you distribute a part of a number so you can do mental math to solve the problem. 3+99 coulc be (3+90)+(3+9) |
Identity Property of Multiplication | When you multiply a number by 1 to get the original number. 5x1=5 |
Identity Property of Addition | Adding 0 to a number to get the original number. 0+7=7 |
Term | A term is a number or product of a number and variable. 7a, 6c, 2x |
Like Terms | Like term have a number and variable. The variables are alike but the numbers can be different. For example 7a and 5a are like terms. |
Variable Term | A variable term is obviously a variable in a term. a, z , x, r, p, b, |
Numeric Term | A numeric term is the number in a term. 7, 6, 9, 1, |
Constant | A constant is a term that has no variable, 6,7,9,0,1 |
Open Sentence | An open sentence is an equation with one or more than one variable. 7+3a+9x |
Inequality | An inequality is the sum or product of an open sentence. Like the inequality of 7+8x+7x+8z would be 7+15x+8z |
Open Circle | An open circle is when you are graphing a greater than/less than statement and there is no equal than sign. 9>x |
Closed Circle | A closed circle is when you are a graphing a greater then/less than statement and there is a equal to sign. x<_10 |
Solving Equations | Solving an equation would be solving a math sentence with either or all of multiplication, addition, division or subtraction. |
