Principles of design

QuestionAnswer
What are the elements of design? Line, Color, Shape, and Texture
What are the principles of design? Proportion, Rhythm, Emphasis, and Balance
What is the principle repetition? Something that is repeating
How does texture affect color? highs and lows of the texture will create shadowing, ultimately changing the color in different shades.
What type of textures increase a persons body size? something bulky, or shiny and light catching
What do curved lines suggest? something gentle, feminine or graceful
What do diagonal lines suggest? excitement, movement,sophisticated
What are the three types of rhythm? Radiation, Gradation, Repition
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? When both sides are not exactly alike but still somewhat similar.
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? horizontal lines go left to right while vertical lines go up and down.
What does harmony mean, how is it achieved? When all of the principles and elements of design work together.
What are the two things texture involves? sight and touch
What are the four types of line? Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and curved
What is proportion? when the size of one part relates to the other.
What is symmetrical balance? Example? When is equal and balanced on both sides.
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? A center point of interest in a garment. another name for it is accent.
What is another name for symmetrical balance? formal balance
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? informal balance
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation is when the colors changes throughout the outfit while radiation is when there is an appeal that moves outward
If the elements of design are considered the "tools", what are the principles of design considered? The principles are considered the rules.
