quadratic functions unit of Algebra II pacing guide

Quadratic Function
Quadratic Function a function that can be described by an equation of the form f(x) =ax^2 + bx + c, where a ≠ 0
Maximum the highest point on a graph
Quadratic Formula the formula x = [-b ± √(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a, used to compute the roots of a quadratic equation
Zero the x-value that makes the function equal to 0
Axis of Symmetry a line that divides an object into half and creates mirror images of each other
Minimum the lowest point on a graph
Discriminant an algebraic expression related to the coefficients of a polynomial equation whose value gives information about the roots of the polynomial calculated using b^2 - 4ac
Solution an answer that can be substituted for a variable that makes the equation true
Vertex the highest or lowest point on a parabola
X-Intercept the x-intercept of a line is the point at which the line crosses the x-axis
Completing the Square the process of converting a quadratic equation into a perfect square trinomial by adding or subtracting terms on both sides
Roots the solutions of a quadratic equation
