Math Chapter 3

QuestionAnswer
Mean the data set is the sum of the values divided by the number of values
Median the data set is the middle value when the values, the median is the mean of the two middle values
Mode the data set is the value tha occurs the most often. A data can have no mode, onemode, or more than one mode
Population the entire group of people or objects that you want information about
Sample a part of a population
Random Sample a sample selectedin such a way thateach member of the population has an equally likely chance to e part of the sample
Biased sample a sample that is not representive of the population from what it is selected
Bar graph a type of graph in which the lenght of the bars are used to represent and compare data
Line graph a type of graph in which points representing data pairs are connected by line segments
Stem-and-leaf plot a datadisplays that helps you see how data values are distributed
Box-and-whisker plot a data that displys that divides data values into five parts
Lower quartile the median of the lower half
Upper quartile the median of the upper half
Lower extreme the least value
Upper extreme the greatest value
Frequency table a table used to group data values into intervals
Frequency the number of data values that lie in an interval of a frequency table or a histogram
Histogram a graph that displays data from a frequency table
Range the difference between the greastest and the lowest in the data set
