Question | Answer |
Base | The base of a parallelogram or triangle is any side of the figure. The bases of a trapezoid are the parallel figure. |
Center | points on a circle or sphere are the same distance. The given point from which all |
Circle | The set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a given point called the center. |
Circumference | The distance around a circle. |
Composite Figure | is made of triangles, quadrilaterals, semicircles, and other two-dimensional figures. |
Cone | A three-dimensional figure with a curved surface and a circular base. |
Cylinder | A three-dimensional figure with two parallel congruent circular bases. |
Diameter | The distance across a circle through the center. |
Edge | The segment formed by intersecting faces of a three-dimensional figure. |
Face | The flat surface of a three- dimensional figure. |
Height | The length of the segment perpendicular to the base with endpoints on opposite sides. In a triangle, the distance from a base to the opposite vertex. |
Lateral Face | One side of a three-dimensional figure. |
Pi | The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. An approximation often used for π is 3.14. |
Prism | A three-dimensional figure with at least three rectangular lateral faces and top and bottom faces parallel. |
Pyramid | A three-dimensional figure with at least three lateral faces that are triangles and only one base. |
Radius | The distance from the center of a circle to any point on the circle. |
Rectangular Prism | A solid figure that has two parallel and congruent bases that are rectangles. |
Sector | A region of a circle bounded by two radii. |
Semicircle | Half of a circle. |
Sphere | A three-dimensional figure in which all points are equal distance from the center. |
Three-Dimensional Figure | A figure with length, width, and depth (or height). |
Triangular Prism | A prism that has bases that are triangles. |
Vertex | The point where the edges of a three dimensional figure intersect. |
Volume | The number of cubic units needed to fill the space occupied by a solid. |
