Question | Answer |
Angle | Two rays with a common endpoint form an angle. The rays and vertex are used to name the angle. |
Acute Angle | An angle with a measure greater than 0° and less than 90°. |
Acute Triangle | A triangle having three acute angles. |
Adjacent Angles | Angles that have the same vertex, share a common side, and do not overlap. |
Circle Graph | A type of statistical graph used to compare parts of a whole. |
Complementary Angles | Two angles are complementary if the sum of their measures is 90o |
Congruent Angles | Angles that have the same measure. |
Congruent Figures | Figures with equal corresponding sides of equal length and corresponding angles of equal measure. |
Congruent Segments | Segments having the same measure. |
Corresponding Sides | Congruent or proportional sides of similar figures. |
Decagon | A polygon having ten sides. |
Degree | Degree |
Equilateral Triangle | A triangle having three congruent sides. |
Hexagon | A polygon having six sides. |
Heptagon | A polygon having seven sides. |
Indirect Measurement | Finding a measurement by using similar triangles and writing a proportion. |
Isosceles Triangle | A triangle having at least two congruent sides. |
Line of Symmetry | A line that divides a figure into two halves that are reflections of each other. |
Line of Reflection | The line over which a figure is reflected. |
Line Symmetry | Figures that match exactly when folded in half have line symmetry. |
Nonagon | A polygon having nine sides. |
Octagon | A polygon having eight sides. |
Obtuse Angle | Any angle that measures greater than 90° but less than 180°. |
Obtuse Triangle | A triangle having one obtuse angle. |
Parallelogram | A quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel and opposite sides congruent. |
Pentagon | A polygon having five sides. |
Quadrilateral | A closed figure having four sides and four angles. |
Right Angle | An angle that measures 90°. |
Right Triangle | A triangle having one right angle. |
Regular Polygon | A polygon that has all sides congruent and all angles congruent. |
Reflection | A type of transformation in which a figure is flipped over a line of symmetry. |
Rhombus | A parallelogram having four congruent sides. |
Scalene Triangle | A triangle having no congruent sides. |
Similar Figures | Figures that have the same shape but not necessarily the same size. |
Straight Angle | An angle that measures exactly 180°. |
Supplementary Angles | Two angles are supplementary if the sum of their measures is 180°. |
Tessellation | A repetitive pattern of polygons that fit together with no holes or gaps. |
Transformation | A movement of a geometric figure. |
Translation | One type of transformation where a geometric figure is slid horizontally, vertically, or both. |
Trapezoid | A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides. |
Triangle | A polygon that has three sides and three angles |
Vertex | A vertex of an angle is the common endpoint of the rays forming the angle. |
