| electroencephalography | study of the electrical activity of the brain |
| electromyography (EMG) | study of a muscle contraction as a result of electrical stimulation |
| Glasgow Coma Scale | assessment tool that evaluates responses to stimuli to determine the level of consciousness |
| lumbar puncture for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis | procedure that detects abnormalities within the CSF through extraction |
| magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) | use of electromagnetic energy to produce an image of an organ |
| myelography | contrast material injection in the subarachnoid space then xray study of the spinal canal and cord |
| pneumoencephalography | xray of the brain following withdrawal of CSF and injection of air or gas via spinal puncture |
| positron emission tomography (PET scan) | injection of radioactive chemical into the blood to reconstruct brain sections |
| Romberg's test | tests neurologic function and balance, patients is told to close their eyes and stand with their feet together |
| transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) | electrical stimulation is applied to a painful area causing interference with the transmission of painful stimuli |
