What is adirect-variation function? | A direct-variation function is s function with a formula of the form y=kx^n, with k not equal to 0 and n greater than zero. |
What is an inverse-variation function? | An inverse-variation function is a function with a formula of the form y=k/x^n with k not equal to zero and n greater than zero. |
What is Law of the Lever? | Law of the Lever states that to balance a given person seated on a seesaw, the distance d the other person is from the pivot (or fulcrum) is inverselly proportional to that person's weight w. That is d=k/w. |
What is inverse-square variation? | the weight W of a body above the surface of the Earth varies inversely as the square of its distance d from the center of the Earth. That is W=k/d^2. |
What is the Fundamental Theorem of Variation? | a. If y varies directly as x^n(That is , y=kx^n.), and x is multiplied by c, then y is multiplied by c^n. b. If y varies inversely as x^n(That is, y=k/x^n.),and x is multiplied by a nonzero constant c, then y is divided by c^n. |
What is slope? | Slope = change in vertical distance/change in horizontal distance or = rise/run. |
What is the rate of change? | The distance it takes a car to stop after the brakes are applied varies directly with the square of the car's speed. The formula is d=1/16 times s^2. |
What is combined variation? | When direct and inverse variations occur together, the situation is called combined variation. y=kx/z |
