benchmark | a standard by which something can be measured |
common denominator | an integer that is a common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions |
cross product | two equal products obtained by multiplying the second term of each ratio by the first term of the other ratio in a proportion |
denominator | the number below the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts are in the whole |
discount | the amount that an item is reduced from the regular price |
equivalent fractions | fractions that describe the same amount of a region |
estimate | a number close to an exact amount |
factor | a number that is multiplied by another number to find a product |
fraction | a number that names a part of a whole or a part of a group |
greatest common factor | the greatest factor that two or more numbers have in common |
improper fraction | a fraction with a numerator greater than or equal to the denominator |
mixed number | a number represented by a whole number and a fraction |
numerator | the number above the bar in a fraction that tells how many equal parts of the whole are being considered |
percent | a ratio of a number to 100 |
place value | place value determines the value of a digit in a number, based on the location of the digit |
product | the number or quantitiy obtained by multiplying two or more numbers together |
reciprocal | one of two numbers whose product is one; two numbers are reciprocals of each other if their product equals one |
repeating decimal | a decimal in which a pattern of one or more digits is repeated indefinitely |
terminating decimal | a decimal that ends, having a finite number of digits after the decimal point |
whole number | a member of the set of positive integers and zero |
