position | the location of a term in a sequence |
variable | a symbol, usually a letter, used to represent a number |
commission | money earned for the sale of an item, usually a percentage of the sale price |
discount | the amount of money saved on a purchase, which is subtracted from the original price |
percent of change | compares the change in quantity to the original amount |
proportion | an equation that shows that two ratios are equivalent |
sale price | the cost of an item after a discount has been subtracted |
tax | percent of original price that is added on to that price; a percent of the purchase price that is added onto the original price (which is pain to the government) |
tip | an additional percentage added to the cost of an item (meal, haircut, etc.) given to a person providing a service |
unit rate | a rate with a denominator of one. |
area | the number of square units covering a surface of a figure |
perimeter | the distance around a geometric figure or the sum of all its sides |
rate | a ratio that compares two numbers with different kinds of units (for example, gallons:hour, price: item, meters : second) |
