Schedule II | Accepted for medical use but with sever restrictions; high potential for abuse; may cause severe psychological or physical dependence (Examples: morphine, metadone, amphetamines) |
Schedule III | Accepted for medical use; Potential for abuse less than with schedule I or II; may cause moderate to low physical dependence or high psychological dependence (Examples: paregoric, acetamijnophen with codeine, fiorinal, anabolic steroids) |
Schedule IV | Accepted for medical use; low potential for abuse; may cause limited physical or psychological dependence compared to schedule III drugs. (Example: meprobamate; chlordiazeposide, diazepam, alprazolam) |
Schedule V | Accepted for medical use; low potential for abuse; may cause limited physical or psychological dependence campared to schedule IV drugs (Example: cough medicines containing codeine, diphenoxylate with atropine, kaolin and pectin belladonna.) |
