Question | Answer |
Plagiarism | copying something word for word and not giving credit to the actual source; “copy and paste” and turn it in with your name on it |
Paraphrase | put it in your own words |
Direct Quote | copying something word for word AND placing it inside quotation marks “ .” AND stating where the passage is from (who said it) ALSO only allowed to use a small amount within your report (no more than 10%) |
Citation | the form that giving credit to the source of your information takes |
Works Cited | the list of citations, the list of sources that you used in your report |
Fair Use | tricky limitations on copyright; NOT a law, only a privilege to be used carefully |
Creative Commons | a free site where copyright owners sign up for a license to distribute part or all of their rights to the public domain; indicated with a cc symbol instead of the single c for copyright; the purpose is to allow for collaboration |
URL | a web address |
Domain suffix | the “dot com” part of the URL; the section of the web address that you check for that site’s reliability |
MLA | the style format required by GASD; other styles include Chicago, Turabian and APA |
