Question | Answer |
Heart | A hollow muscular organ that gives power to transport blood to pulmonary and systemic circulatory system. |
Artery | Sends blood away from heart and transports blood to all body systems. |
Capillaries | Connections between arteries and veins, exchanges oxygen, CO2, nutrients, and waste products with cellsand tissues. |
Vein | Recieves blood and wastes from all body tissues. Also gives blood back to the heart. |
Oxygenated blood | Blood that has oxygen. |
Deoxygenated blood | Blood that does not have oxygen. |
Pericardium | A double walled membrane sac that encloses the heart. |
Pericardial Fluid | Found in the pericardium and prevents friction when the heart beats. |
Epicardium | Outside layer of the heart, the inner layer of the pericardial sac. |
Myocardium | Middle and thickest layer of the heart, consists of cardiac muscle. |
Endocardium | Lining of the heart, forms the inner surface, very smooth. |
Atria | Two upper chambers of the heart, recieves blood from all parts of the body. |
Ventricle | Two lower parts of the heart. Vessels leaving the heart emerge from them, walls are thicker than atrial walls. |
Septum | Separating wall or partition located between either left or right ventricles or atria |
Apex | Tip of the heart. |
Superior vena cava | v/ein that carries deoxygenated blood from the upper half of the body to the heart's right atrium. |
