Addend	Any number being added together
Compatible Numbers	Numbers in a problem or related numbers that are easy to work with mentally. 720 and 90 are compatible for division because 72 /9 = 8
Compensation	Adding an amount to one addend and subtracting, the same amount from the other addend to add mentally.
Round	means to change the value of a number to one that is easier to work with.
Estimate	a number close to an exact value or indicates about how much
Associative Property of Addition	property that states that the way in which numbers are grouped does not change the sum. Example: (3+4) +3= 3+(4+3)
Communative Property of Addition	property that states that order in which numbers are added does not change the sum. Example: 2.3 +1.7=1.7+2.3
Identity Property of Addition	property that states that the sum of any number and 0 equals the number. Example: 115 + 0 = 115
