Question Answer
speed equationdistance divided by time
speedthe rate at which an object moves
motiona change in postion in a certain amount of time
average speedspeed that changes over time
constant speedspeed that does not change over time
velocityspeed in a given direction
accelerationrate of change in velocity
decelerationa decrease in velocity
momentumdepends on the mass of the object and the velocity with which it is traveling
acceleration equation(final velocity-orginal velocity)divided by time
momentummass x velocity
average speedfinal distance divided by final time
Types of FrictionRolling, Fluid, Sliding
Rolling FrictionProduced by such objects such as wheels or ball bearings. Tends to be less than sliding friction.
Sliding FrictionWhen solid objects slide over each other
Balanced Forceforce acting on an object that will NOT change the object's motion
Unbalanced Forceforce that acts on an object that will change its direction
ForceA force gives energy to an object, sometimes causing it to start moving, stop mofing or change direction. A push or a pull
FrictionA force that acts in a direction opposite to the motion of the moving object. Friction will cause a moving object to slow down or stop.
Fluid FrictionOccurs when objects move accross or through fluids or gases
Sir Isaac NewtonLaws of motion
1st lawInertia - an object a rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
2nd LawForce = mass x acceleration (the larger the force the larger the acceleration)
3rd LawEvery action has an equal and opposite reaction.
