Question | Answer |
Domain | The set of first coordinates of the ordered pairs of a relation. |
relation | A set of ordered pairs. |
range | The second coordinates of the relation. |
function | A relationship in which each of the domain is paired with exactly one member of the range. A number of the domain is an input and the related number of the range is an output. |
function notation | A way of writing a function in which you us f(x) instead of y. |
function rule | An equation that describes a function. |
linear equation | Any equation whose graph is a line. |
linear inequality | A number sentence in which the equal sign of a linear equation is replaced with >,<, or ≤. |
negative correlation | As one set of values increases, the other set tends to decrease. |
positive correlation | As one set of values increases, the other set tends to increase. |
no correlation | The values show no relationship. |
scatter plot | A graph that shows the relationship between two sets of data. |
slope | The ratio that describes the tilt of a line. Slope = vertical change over horizontal change = rise over run. |
slope-intercept form | y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept of the line. |
solution | An ordered pair that makes such an equation a true statement. |
system of linear inequalities | Two or more linear inequalities. |
system of linear equations | Two or more linear equations. |
trend line | A line that closely fits the data points in a scatter plot. |
verticle-line test | A test that allows you to describe graphically whether a relation is a function. |
y-intercept | The point where the line crosses the y-axis. |
