Term | Definition |
Factor | one of the two or more whole numbers that are multiplied to give you a product. |
Multiple | the product of a given whole number and another whole number. |
Integer | -9, 0, 12, 37, -55 All whole numbers, their opposites, and 0. |
Absolute Value | |-6| = 6, |8| = 8 The distance a number is from 0....ALWAYS positive. |
Opposites | -5, 5...-2.5, 2.5...80, -80... Values who share the same distance from 0 on the number line. |
Percent | "out of 100" |
Rational Number | Any number than can be represented as a fraction with whole numbers in the numerator and denominator. |
Benchmark | A reference number used to estimate and calculate values. |
LCM | The first multiple that is shared between two or more numbers. |
GCF | The greatest common factor shared between two or more numbers. |
Prime Number | A number with only two factors: one and itself. |
Composite Number | A number with more than two factors other than 1 and itself. |
Base of Exponent | The number you multiply based on the exponent. |
Exponent | The amount of times you multiply the base value. |
Expression | A mathematical phrase with numbers, symbols, and variables. Does not include an = sign. |
