Term | Definition |
Inverse Operations | Two Operations that undo each other. |
Equivalent Equations | Equations that have the same solution. |
Addition Property of Equality | Adding the same number to each side of the equation produces an equivalent equation. |
Subtraction Property of Equality | Subtracting the same number from each side of an equation produces an equivalent equation. |
Multiplcation Property of Enequality | When both sides of the equation are multiplied by the same number, the remaining expressions are still equal. |
Identity | An equation that is true for all values of the variable. |
Distributive Property | A property that can be used to find the product of a number and a sum or difference. |
Like terms | Terms that have the same variable parts. Constant terms are also like terms. |
Formula | An equation that relates two or more quantity. |
Reciprocal | The inverse of a number. |
Varialbe | A letter that is substituted for a number. |
Algebraic expressions | A expression that includes at least one variable. Also called a variable exspression |
Power | An expression that represents repeated multiplication of the same factor. |
Exponents | The number or variable that represents the number of times the base of a powers used as a factor. |
Base | The number or expression that is used as a factor in a repeated multiplication. |
Open sentence | An equation or an inequality that contains an algebraic expression. |
Equation | A mathematical sentence formed by placing the symbol = between two expressions. |
Inequality | A Mathematical sentence formed by placing on of the symbols <, >, etc between two expressions. |
