Term | Definition |
Extract functions | select and clip |
overlay functions | erase, intersect, and union |
proximity functions | buffer |
local operations | collects data on a cell-by-cell basis and reports a single value on a cell-by-cell basis also known as spearing - can be applied to a single raster or multiple rasters |
focal operation | collects data on a neighborhood basis and reports a single value on a cell by cell basis also known as funneling |
spatial analysis | spatial relationships among map layers involves spatially evaluating traditional statistical procedures using one of four basic techniques for accessing/organizing the geo-registered data for analysis |
zonal operations | collects data on a region-wide basis and reports summary on a region wide basis also known as lacing |
global operations | collects data on a map-wide basis and reports results on a map-wide or cell-by-cell basis also known as plunging |
Euclidean distance operation | also a straight line operation - as crow flies - measures the distance from the center point of a cell to the center point of every other cell - units of measurement are in the same units as coordinate system of the layer used as input |
combine | -type of local operation - takes multiple input rasters and assigns a new value for each combination n the output raster |
equal/greater than/less than frequency | -type of local operation - determine for each cell how many times the input values obtained from a list of rasters fulfill the condition |
rank/popularity | - type of local operation - assigns an output value to each cell according to if they meet or not a specific criteria |
neighborhood operations | - data from both an input location and nearby locations are used to determine the output value of each pixel - focal cell (input value) is usually at the center of the neighborhood being examined - four types: 3X3, Circle, Annulus, Wedge |
