Term | Definition |
quadrilateral | a polygon with 4 sides and 4 angles |
degrees | the measurement of an angle |
right angle | an angle that measures 90 degrees |
parallel | two lines that never meet or intersect each other |
symmetry | a figure that has two halves that match - when cut in half, the two pieces will be identical |
intersecting | two lines that cross or cut through each other |
obtuse triangle | a triangle with one obtuse angle and two acute angles |
perpendicular | two lines that cross or cut through each other and form a 90 degree angle |
acute triangle | a triangle with three acute angles |
right triangle | a triangle with one right angle and two acute angles |
acute angle | an angle that measures less than 90 degrees |
obtuse angle | an angle that measures greater than 90 degrees, but less than 180 degrees |
TRI- | a prefix meaning "three" (a TRIangle is a 3 sided figure with 3 angles) |
QUAD- | a prefix meaning "four" (a QUADrilateral is a 4 sided figure with 4 angles) |
line | continues in both directions with no end (arrows on both sides). |
line segment | a part of a line (endpoints on both sides) |
ray | a line that continues in one direction with no end (one endpoint and one arrow) |
point | a location (a dot) |
