Term | Definition |
absolute value function | A function of the form f(x) = l mx +b l + c, where m not equal to 0. |
dependent variable | In the order pair (x,y), y is this type of variable because y depends |
domain | In a relation is the set of all inputs, or x-coordinates of the ordered pairs |
translation | Shifts the graph horizontally, vertically, or both. It results in a graph of the same shape and size but possibly in a different position. |
standard form | A linear equation in the form of Ax + By = C, where A B, and C are real numbers, and A and B are not both Zero. |
x-intercept | Is where the line crosses the x-axis |
slope-intercept form | If the form of a line written as y = mx + b |
slope | Is the ratio of the vertical change to a corresponding horizontal change. |
vertical line test | Is used to determine whether the relation is a function when looking at a graph. |
point-slope form | Is the form of a line written as y-y1 = m(x - x1) |
linear inequality | In two variables it has a graph in which the boundary line separates the shaded region from the un-shaded region. |
function | Is a relation in which each element of the domain is paired with exactly one element in the range. |
perpendicular lines | The lines have opposite reciprocal slopes |
parallel lines | The lines have the same slope but different y-intercepts |
relation | Is a set of pairs of input and output values and is written as a set of ordered pairs |
y-intercept | Is where the line crosses the y-axis |
range | is the set of all the outputs, or y-coordinates of the ordered pairs |
linear equation | Is an equation that can be written in the form y = mx + b or y=y1 = m(x-x1) or Ax + By = C |
