Term | Definition |
Natural Numbers | Counting numbers beginning with 1 and going to infinity. No zero, decimals, fractions or integers. |
Whole Numbers | Counting numbers and the inclusion of zero. No decimals, fractions or integers. |
Rational Numbers | All numbers which can be written as a ratio (or fraction). This includes fractions, repeating decimals, integers, zero and counting numbers. |
Irrational Numbers | Numbers that cannot be written as a ratio (or fraction). This includes non-repeating and non-terminating decimals, non-perfect square roots and pi. |
Real Numbers | The set of numbers that include natural, whole, rational and irrational numbers as well as integers. |
Integers | Counting numbers and their opposites as well as zero. No decimals or fractions. The square root of some perfect squares may fall into this category. |
