Term | Definition |
Location | Where things are located. A location can be absolute (specific) or relative (general area). |
Absolute Location | Locations that are specific, as in coordinates of a map. (i.e.30N/20E) "Where is it?" |
Relative Location | Locations in relation to other locations. (Nearby) (i.e. Next door to Smith's) |
Place | An area that is defined by everything in it. All places have features that give them personality and distinguish them from other places. |
Region | An area that is defined by certain similar characteristics. These characteristics can be physical, natural, human or cultural. |
Movement | The way people, products, information, and ideas are moved/exchanged. (Local- How did you get to school? Global- How did humans get to North America?) |
Human-Environment Interaction | This interaction looks at the relationships between the people and their environment-- how people adapt to the environment and how they change it. |
