Term | Definition |
Axis | A reference line drawn on a graph that you can measure from to find values. |
Axes | Plural of axis usually meaning the X and Y lines that cross at right angles to make a graph. |
Coordinate System | System which uses one or more members or coordinates to determine the position of a point. |
First Quadrant | The Upper right hand corner of the graph, the section where both X and Y are positive. |
Intersection | Where lines cross over each other. |
Points | An exact location usually has a name often a letter like A or B. |
Lines | A long thin mark made by a pen or pencil with no points on it. |
Coordinates | A set of values that show an exact position. |
Ordered Pair | Two numbers written in a certain order usually written like this: (4,5) |
Origin | The starting point. |
Perpendicular number line | Two or more lines that intersect at a 90 degree angle. |
X-Axis | The line on the graph that runs horizontally through zero |
X-Coordinate | The horizontal value in a pair of coordinates. Always written first in an ordered pair. |
Y-Axis | The line on a graph that runs vertically through zero. |
Y-Coordinate | The vertical value in a pair of coordinates. Always written second in an ordered pair. |
Horizontal | Going side to side or left to right. |
Vertical | Going up and down or top to bottom. |
Biotic | Relating to or resulting from living things. |
Abiotic | Physical not biological. Not from living organisms. |
Precipitation | Rain, snow, sleet, or hail that fall to the ground. |
Evaporation | Changing of liquid to gas. |
Condensation | The conversion or change of a water vapor or gas to a liquid. |
