polling place | location where you vote |
precinct | a voting district |
ballot | a list of candidates that are not the two major parties that you can vote for |
absentee ballot | a ballot for those who can not make the vote on election day |
returns | the total of votes after a polling place closes |
exit poll | asking people how they voted as they leave the polling place |
electorate | those people who are eligible to vote |
apathy | lack of interest |
electoral college | the people who actually vote for president |
initiative | a procedure by which citizens can propose new laws or state constitutional amendments |
proposition | a petition asking for a new law |
referendum | a way for people to vote on state or local laws |
recall | where people can vote to remove a local official |
elector | the person who votes for the suggestion of president |
winner-take-all system | where the candidate who gets the majority vote takes all the votes for that state |
propoganda | items that ether support or undermine a subject or person |
political action committee (PAC) | groups made to support favored candidates in the political race |
soft money | money that is put for the general election purpose |
incumbent | politicians who have already been elected to office |
