Gender of nouns... A noun is either masculine or feminine.Nouns ending in -o are usually masculine, those ending in -a are usually feminine, and nouns that end in -e can be either (memorize these with their articles).
Notes: Nouns ending in -ore or a consonant are masculine (ie: il fiore, il dottore, lo scultore, autobus, sport, bar) 
Nouns ending in -ione are generally feminine. (ie: la lezione, la presentazione, la conversazione) 
Plural of nouns...In Italian, the plural is usually formed by changing the final vowel of the noun....-o turns to -i (un libro, i libri); -a turns to -e (una casa, le case); -e turns to -i (un dottore, i dottori; una stazione, le stazioni)
Notes: 1. some nouns are invariable and don't change in the plural. a. nouns ending in accented vowels (una citta, due citta; un caff'e, due caff'e) b. ending in a consonant (un bar, due bar; un film, due film) c. nouns that are abbreviated (un cinema 
Notes cont'd: 2. Nouns that end in -ca and -ga change to...-che and -ghe (keeps original sound (ie: un' amica, due amiche; una riga, due righe)
Nots cont'd: 3. Most nouns ending in -io change...-i (un negozio, due negozi; uficio, due uffici)
Remember if the noun begins w/ 2 consonants (scultore or spazio)... if you were to say "il scultore = 3 consanants in a row which doesn't work in Italian, so it changes article to...lo
-o changes to (to make plural noun)-i (un libro, due libri)
-a changes to (to make plural noun)-e (una casa, due case)
-e changes to(to make plural noun)-i (un dottore, due dottori; una stazione, due stazioni)
