Word Definition
24 Hours The time it takes the Earth to make a full rotation; the length of day and night on Earth
365 1/4 Day The time is takes the Earth to make a full revolution around the sun; the length of one year
Crater A bowl-shaped depression with a raised rim, formed by the impact of a meteorite
Gravity The natural force of attraction between any two massive objects, such as the Earth and Sun, which gets stronger the larger the object
Lunar Pertaining to the moon
Moon A natural satellite that orbits the Earth that shines by the Sun’s reflected light
Orbit The curved path around an object, such as the path a planet follows around the Sun
Phases/Lunar Cycle The different shapes of the moon as we see it from Earth
Revolution The trip a planet or satellite take around another object
Rotation The turning of the Earth on its imaginary axis
Satellite A natural body, such as the moon, that orbits another object
Solar System The Sun, eight plantets, and other objects that orbit the Sun in a predictable manner
Sunspot Dark areas on the Sun’s surface that are cooler than the rest of the Sun
Tides The rising and falling of the ocean that occurs twice daily; caused by the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun
