Duckboards | A duckboard is a platform made of wooden slats built over muddy ground to form a dry passageway. |
Rats | a rodent that resembles a large mouse, typically having a pointed snout and a long, sparsely haired tail. Some kinds have become cosmopolitan and are sometimes responsible for transmitting diseases. |
No man’s land | No man's land is land that is unoccupied or is under dispute between parties that leave it unoccupied due to fear or uncertainty. |
Infantry | soldiers marching or fighting on foot. |
Gas Mask | a protective mask used to cover a person's face as a defense against poisonous gas. |
Dead in the middle | when the bodies of fallen soldiers are in the middle of the trench. |
Support troops | troops that come in to help if the regular troops need help. |
Reinforcement | the action or process of reinforcing or strengthening. |
Western front | The Western Front was the name the Germans gave to a series of trenches that ran 700 kilometres from the Belgian coast to the Swiss border. |
