Colony | a settlement under the control of another country |
Government | a person or group of people who rule or have control |
Independence | freedom from another's control |
Revolution | a fight to replace one government with a different government |
Tax | money the government collects from people |
Boycott | an act when people stop buying a product |
Intolerable | means something is unfair and should not be allowed |
Patriot | a person who wanted the 13 colonies to be independent from England |
Loyalist | a person who wanted the 13 colonies to remain loyal to England |
Congress | a group of representatives who meet to work out a problem |

Declaration | an announcement |
Blockade | a group of ships that block other ships from sailing in and out of a harbor |
Oath | an agreement |
Traitor | a person who acts against his country |
Quarter | the chance to surrender |
Militia | a group of men who fight together |
Stamp Act | the colonists stopped buying paper |
Tea Act | colonists in Boston threw tea overboard |
Intolerable Acts | England took all power away from Boston and closed the ports so no goods could get in or out of Boston |
The Rebellion of the Colonists | the colonies set up militias and rebel against England |
Declaration of Independence | the colonists declared their desire to be free and independent states |
