Term | Definition |
place | The placement of a digit in a number. (ex. --ones, tens, thousands) |
place value | Value of the place of a digit in a number. (ex.--4,000, 600, 80) |
whole number | Counting numbers; 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and so on. Not a fraction or decimal. |
tenths | Part of 10 equal parts. One place to the right of the decimal point. |
hundredths | Part of 100 equal parts. Two places to the right of the decimal point. |
thousandths | Part of 1000 equal parts. Three places to the right of the decimal point. |
decimal number | A number with one or more digits to the right of the decimal point. |
whole number | The number without any fractional or decimal part. |
expanded notation | The form of writing a number by showing it as a sum of its digits multiplied to their respective place values (ex.--(4 x1,000) + (3 x 100) + (2 x 10) + (7 x 1)) |
word form | Using words to write a number. |
standard form | Using digits to write numbers. |
unit form | A form of a number that is expressed by giving the number of place values within the number (ex.--52 = 5 tens 2 ones) |
