Words | Definition |
Model | Representation |
Atom | Smallest unit of matter |
Nucleus | The very dense region consisting of protons and neutrons at the center of the atom |
Proton | the positive charged subatomic particle of the atom |
Neutron | the subatomic particle with no electric charge in the atom |
Electron | the negative charged subatomic particle in the atom |
Atomic Number | the number of protons found in the nucleus of an atom from that element |
Atomic/Chemical/Nuclear Symbol | 1-3 lettered internationally agreed code for a chemical element, often in Latin |
Subatomic Particles | particles that make up the atom |
Molecule | a group of two or more atoms that make up elements |
Lewis Structure | a group of two or more atoms that make up elements diagrams that show the bonding between atoms of a molecule and the lone pairs of electrons that may exist in the molecule |
Bohr Model | depicts the atom as a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons that travel in circular orbits around the nucleus |
Electron Shell | an orbit followed by electrons around an atom's nucleus |
Valence Electron | an electron that is associated with an atom, and that can participate in the formation of a chemical bond |
