Term | Definition |
algebraic fraction | a fraction with one or more variables in the numerator or denominator |
base | in a power, the number used as a factor as many times as given by the exponent |
composite number | a whole number that has more than two factors |
exponent | tells how many times the base is multiplied by itself |
factor | to write a number as a product of its factors |
greatest common factor (gcf) | the greatest number that is a factor of two or more numbers |
monomial | an expression that is a number, a variable, or a product of numbers and/or variables |
power | a number that is expressed using an exponent |
prime factorization | a composite number expressed as a product of prime factors |
scientific notation | a number expressed as a x 10^n |
simplest form | when the gcf of the numerator and denominator is 1 |
standard form | when a number does not contain exponents |
Venn Diagram | a diagram that is used to show the relationships among the sets of numbers or objects using overlapping circles in a rectangle |
