enflurane | 1. hyperpolarize nuerons & 2. pre-synaptic: reduces the amount of NT released | Seizures, hypotension |
isoflurane | 1. hyperpolarize nuerons & 2. pre-synaptic: reduces the amount of NT released | Odor, not induction, hypotension |
desflurane | 1. hyperpolarize nuerons & 2. pre-synaptic: reduces the amount of NT released | Strong irritant, not induction, very low partition coefficient |
sevoflurane | 1. hyperpolarize nuerons & 2. pre-synaptic: reduces the amount of NT released | Non-irritating, induction and maintenance |
nitrous oxide | Antagonizes NMDA and GABAa | Insoluble in blood, adjunct, weak anesthetic, does have analgesic properties |
thiopental | GABAa Agonist/barbiturates/Increases ClCh opening duration | Suppression of EEG |
etomidate | GABAa Agonist, hypnosis; no analgesia | Nausea and Vomiting! |
