Term | Definition |
Line | A straight path of points that goes on and on in both directions |
Intersecting lines | Lines that cross at one point |
Perpendicular lines | Two intersecting lines that form right angles |
Parallel lines | In a plane, lines that never intersect |
Point | An exact location in space |
Plane | An endless flat surface |
Angle | A figure formed by two rays that have the same endpoint |
Acute angle | An angle that is less than a right angle |
Obtuse angle | An angle that is greater than a right angle |
Right angle | An angle that forms a square corner |
Line segment | A part of a line that ends in two end points |
Ray | A part of a line that has one endpoint and continues endlessly in one direction. |
Straight angle | An angle that forms a straight line |
Pentagon | A polygon with five sides |
Hexagon | A polygon with six sides |
Quadrilateral | A polygon with four sides |
Polygon | A closed plane figure made up of line segments |
Triangle | A polygon with three sides |
Acute triangle | A triangle with three acute angles |
Vertex, plural vertices | The point where two rays meet. The point where the sides of a polygon meet. |
Isosceles triangle | A triangle with two equal sides |
Equilateral triangle | A triangle with three equal sides |
Right triangle | A triangle with one right angle |
Obtuse triangle | A triangle with one obtuse angle |
Parallelogram | A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides |
Scalene triangle | A triangle where all the sides are different lengths |
Rhombus | A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides, and all the sides the same length |
Radius | A line segment that connects the edge of a circle with the center |
Diameter | A line segment that connects two points on a circle an crosses the center |
Cube | A solid with six square faces |
Center | The middle of a circle |
Trapezoid | A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel sides |
