balance | to compare the entries in a check register to the bank's records of the deposits and withdrawals and to fix any errors found |
base | a number that has an exponent |
composite | a number that has more than two factors |
deposit | money added to a bank account |
distributive property | the property that states multiplying one factor by the addends of another factor is equal to multiplying the two factors |
fair number cube | a cube that has an equal amount of each number on its faces, such as dice |
greatest common factor (GCF) | the largest factor that two or more numbers have in common |
improper fractions | fractions in which the numerator is larger than the denominator |
least common denominator (LCD) | a number that is the smallest multiple of two or more denominators |
least common multiple (LCM) | a number that is the smallest multiple of two or more numbers |
mean | the number found by adding two or more numbers and dividing the sum by the total number of addends; also called the average |
milli- | metric prefix meaning one thousandth |
centi- | metric prefix meaning one hundredth |
kilo- | metric prefix meaning one thousand |
mixed number | a number that includes a whole number and a proper fraction |
percent | the number of parts out of 100 |
plane | a flat surface that extends in all directions without end |
prime | a number whose only factors are one and itself |
proper fraction | a fraction that has a numerator less than its denominator |
range | the difference between the largest number and the smallest number in a data set |
ray | a set of points that starts at an endpoint and continues infinitely in one direction along a straight path |
straight angle | an angle that is 180 degrees |
thousandths | one part of one whole divided into one thousand parts; the third place value after the decimal |
Venn diagram | a diagram that uses circles or other shapes to compare different sets and to show how the sets overlap |
withdraw | money subtracted from a bank account |
