Term | Definition |
Commutative Property of Multiplication | The order of factors can be changed, but the product stays the same. |
Associative Property of Multiplication | You can change the grouping of the factors. The product stays the same. |
Identity Property of Multiplication | When you multiply any number by 1, the product is that number. |
Zero Property of Multiplication | When you multiply any number by 0, the product is 0. |
Factors | Numbers that are multiplied to get a product. |
Product | The number that is the result of multiplying two or more factors. |
Multiple | The product of a given whole number and any other whole number. |
Overestimate | The result of using larger numbers to estimate a sum or product. The estimate is larger than the actual answer. |
Underestimate | The result of using lesser numbers to estimate a sum or product. The estimate is smaller than the actual answer. |
Base | The number that is multiplied by itself when raised to a power. |
Exponent | A number that tells how many times the base is used as a factor. |
Exponential Notation | A way to write a number using a base and an exponent. |
Expanded Form | A way to write a number that shows the place value of each digit. |
Standard Form | A common way of writing a number with commas separating groups of three digits starting from the right. |
Squared | A name for a number to the second power. |
Cubed | A name for a number to the third power. |
