What is Spatial location? | The study of how objects, people, or ideas are or are not related across space. |
What is Physical geography? | the study of the earth's physical processes, how the affect humans and how humans affect the processes. |
What is Human(cultural) Geography? | The spatial expressions of culture. ex population, literary, economics, ideas, language, and folklore. |

Before time zones, how did people keep track of time in different areas of the world? | local noon- every town kept track of their own time. and people who traveled a lot would have to change time constantly |
How many degrees are time zones? and what is the only reason it would not be based on these degrees | 15 degrees, and for political purposes or to fit a whole country into one time zone. |

Where is the prime meridian located? and why? | In grenwhich, england. England had a lot of political power, and everyone was already using them as 0 degrees longitude. |
What is Longitude? | Measure East to west, lines run from north to south. 0 degrees to 180 degrees. |
What is latitude? | Measures north to south, lines run east to west. equator marks the 0 degrees. |
What are the benefits of using a smaller map? | Small maps can show more detail of a specific area and the representative fraction is smaller |
What is step one of the scientific method? | Observation. Make an observation that requires an explanation |
What is step two of the scientific method? | Hypothesis. restate the observation as a hypothesis |
What is step 3 of the scientific method? | Technique. determine a technique for testing the hypothesis and collecting necessary data. |
What is step 4 of the scientific method? | Test-use the technique to test hypothesis. |
What is step 5 of the scientific method? | Results-Test supports or rejects hypothesis. |
What is a map? | Two dimensional or flat representation of earth or a portion of it. |
What are the 8 features of a map? | name/title, date, orientation device(Compass rose), scale, legends, location system(letter and number grid), data source and projection type |
What is absolute location? | Given a specific location, coordinates used to locate a place on a map. EX. Latitude & longitude, address |
What is Relative location? | Describing location in reference to something else that is more well known |
What are the 3 types of scales on a map? | Verbal(1in=1mile) Representative Fraction(1;400units) and bar scales. |
What is the only map scale that stays accurate when the map is enlarged? | The bar scale. |

What is a Disadvantage of a map? | It has a distortion |
Discrete data is? | Data that is represented on a map by a point, area, or line to show their location and distribution. |
What's an example of continuous data? | Elevation, temperature, air pressure. |
Isolines are? | A line on a map that connect points of the same numerical value. |
What is GIS? | Geographic information systems, the computer based technology that represents a marriage between computer cartography and database management. |
What is Lambert's Law? | A formula by which the intensity of insulation can be calculated by using the sun's zenith angle. |
Who was Eratosthenes? | A man who in 240 BC used geometry and solar observations to make an accurate estimate of Earth's Circumference |
