Term | Definition |
Point | A dot labeled with one capital letter |
Segment | Has two points as endpoints, labeled with two capital letters with a bar above |
Line | A straight path that goes on forever in both directions, labeled with two capital letters with a line with arrows above or the word line with a lower letter |
Collinear | Three or more points on the same line |
Non-collinear | Three points not on the same line |
Bisect | The action of dividing a segment into two congruent parts. You can bisect an angle and make two congruent angles or you can bisect a segment and make two congruent segments. |
Midpoint | A midpoint is a point in the middle of a segment. It divides the segment into two congruent parts. |
Between | A point that is between, not necessarily in the middle, between two endpoints. |
Ray | A segment that extends forever in one direction. It is labeled with two capital letters and an arrow above. |
Plane | A 2D shape that is closed and consists of at least 3 non-collinear points. The most common example is a four sided shape. |
Coplanar | Two or more points that are on the same plane. |
Non-Coplanar | Two points or two lines that are not on the same plane. |
Complementary | Two angles that add to 90 degrees. |
Supplementary | Two angles that add to 180 degrees |
Linear Pair | Two adjacent angles that add to 180 degrees |
Adjacent Angles | Two angles that share a ray- a vertex and side |
Vertical Angles | Two angles that are NOT adjacent- they are across from each other and only share a vertex |
Straight Angle | An angle that equals 180 degrees |
