Bias | When a survey question contains assumptions that may or may not be true |
Bivariate | A set of data that uses two variables |
Box-and-whisker plot | A graph that summarizes a set of data by displaying it along a number line |
Combination | A selection of objects without regard to order |
Complement of an Event | The probability of a random event not occurring |
Matrix | A rectangular array of numbers organized into rows or columns |
Element | Each number in a matrix |
Frequency | The number of fata values in an interval |
Frequency Table | A table grouping the data values into intervals |
Cumulative frequency table | A table showing the number of fata values that lie in or below a given interval |
Histogram | A graph that can display data from a frequency table |
Measures of Central Tendency | Summarize a set of data |
Outlier | Data value that is much greater or less that other values in the set |
Range | A measure of dispersion found by subtracting the smallest value from the largest |
Percentile Rank | The percentage of data values that are less than or equal to that value |
Quantitive | Measure characteristics numerically |
Qualitative | Measures characteristics categorically |
Univariate | A set of data that uses only one variable |
Population | The group you wish to gather information about |
Sample | A smaller group that you collect information about |
Random Sampler | Randomly selects them |
Systematic Sampler | Picks a number n and samples every nth person |
Stratified Sample | Divides people into similar groups and then randomly selects some from each group |
Fundamental Rule of Counting | M ways for one event, N ways for another: M times N ways for both events to occur |
Factorial | The product of the numbers from 1 to N |
Permutation | An arrangement of objects in which order matters |
Combination | A selection of objects in which order does not matter |
Probability | The likelihood that an event will happen |

Odds | A ratio that compares the number of favorable outcomes and unfavorable outcomes |
