natural numbers | all counting numbers |
whole numbers | natural numbers and 0 |
integers | whole numbers and their opposites, and zero. |
rational numbers | any number that can be expressed as a fraction, plus repeating and terminating decimals. |
irrational numbers | numbers than cannot be expressed as a fraction. |
real numbers | all rational and irrational numbers |
square | found by multiplying a number by itself. |
base | the number being multiplied. |
exponent | the small number that tells how many times to mulitply the base. |
radicand | the number under the radical sign |
inverse operations | squaring a number and finding the square of a number. They undo each other. |
perfect squares | have square roots that are integers |
