transformations | Transformations are different ways to move a figure. Three kinds of TRANSFORMATIONS are: reflections, translaitons, and rotations. |
translation | When you slide a figure, it is a TRANSLATION. |
reflection | When you flip a figure over a line, it is a REFLECTION. |
rotation | When you turn a figure around a point or vertex, it is a ROTATION. |
congruent figure | CONGRUENT FIGURES have the same size and the same shape. |
point symmetry | A figure has POINT SYMMETRY if it can be turned about a central point still look the same in at least two different positons. |
line symmetry | Another kind of symmetry is LINE SYMMETRY. A figure has line symmetry when it can be folded about a line so that it's two parts are identical. When you unfold the figure, one side is a reflection of the other. A figure can have more than one LS. |
