The idea for the StudyStack "program" originated in 1992 when John wrote a small flash card like program. Although he never released that
first program, that idea is what sparked his interest in developing the studystack web site. Almost ten years later, John decided that
the "studystack " idea could turn into a useful resource for students as a web site.
Since he had no outside funding to create this website, freely available tools from the Apache Group,
such as, Tomcat and log4j, and MySQL were used.
A Model 1 JSP architecture was used to quickly prototype the web site. Some of the original activities were created with Java applets.
However, all the current activities are implemented with JavaScript.
