Stratified Sample   A sample in which the researcher divides the entire target population into different subgroups, or strata, and then randomly selects the final subjects proportionally from the different strata.

Random Sample   A sample in which every element in the population has an equal chance of being selected.

Biased Sample   A sample that causes some members of the population to be less likely to be included than others.

Cherry-Picking   A colloquialism that refers to the act of pointing at individual cases or data that seem to confirm a particular position, while ignoring a significant portion of related cases or data that may contradict that position.

Non-Responsive Bias   The bias that results when respondents differ in meaningful ways from nonrespondents.

Self-Selected Sample   The bias that results from problems in the measurement process, like leading questions and social desirability.

Grouped Data   Data which have been arranged in groups or classes rather than showing all the original figures.

Ungrouped Data   Raw data.

Self-Administered Survey   A survey that a respondent completes on eir own, either on paper or via computer.

Measure of Central Tendency   A measure that tells us where the middle of a bunch of data lies.

Frequency Distribution Table   Lists the data values as well as the number of times each value appears in the data set. Is used for ungrouped data.

Population   The set of individuals, items, or data from which a statistical sample is taken.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
 
To hide a column, click on the column name.
