MEASURES OF CENTRAL TENDENCY (a.k.a. centers of data)   Numbers that can be used to represent a group of data.   mean, median, mode

MEAN   The average of all the numbers in a set of data. (i.e. The sum of items in a data set divided by the number of data items.)   For {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}: (1+2+3+4+5)/5 = 3; 3 is the mean

MEDIAN   The middle number (or the average of the two middle numbers) of a set of data when the numbers are listed in order.   For {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}: 3 is in the middle, so it is the median. For {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}: 3 and 4 are in the middle, (3 + 4)/2 = 3.5, so 3.5 is the median.

MODE   The number in a set of data that occurs the most often in a data set.   For {1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 5}: 3 is the mode because it occurs the most often.

MEASURES OF SPREAD   Numbers that show how a group of data is distributed.   range, five-number summary, interquartile range

RANGE   The difference between the highest and lowest numbers of a set of data.   For {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}: 1 is the lowest number, 5 is the highest number, 5-1 = 4, so 4 is the range.

FIVE-NUMBER SUMMARY   A list of the five numbers that separate a set of data into four equal groups (quarters). These numbers are the low, first quartile, median (second quartile), third quartile, and high.   For {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10}: 1 = low, 10 = high, (5+6)/2 = 5.5, so 5.5 = median. To the left of 5.5 are 5 numbers, 3 is in the middle, so 3 = 1st quartile. To the right of 5.5, 8 is in the middle, so 8 = 3rd quartile. FNS = 1, 3, 5.5, 8, 10

DISPLAYS OF DATA   Pictures that can be used to organize and represent a group of data.   bar chart, scatter plot, line graph, box-and-whisker plot

HISTOGRAM   A bar chart in which the bars represent specific intervals of data. It displays frequency (how often things occur)!   Can't draw pictures with this program. See your notes. (You must label the axes.)

STEM-AND-LEAF PLOT   A table that orders and categorizes a set of data by units of 10.   Can't draw pictures with this program. See your notes. (You must include a legend.)

BOX-AND-WHISKER PLOT (a.k.a. boxplot)   A graph that uses a box to represent the middle 50% of a data set and segments to represent the first and last quarters of the set (i.e. a diagram of the five-number summary).   Can't draw pictures with this program. See your notes. (You must label the graph for either the five-number summary or quarters.)

To hide a column, click on the column name.
 
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
 
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
 
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
