Also people got sea sick. and captions were cramming more than half the people that should be in the boats for the ride.

What was the purpose of Gross Ile?   It was an island that people who were sick on ships would go to to get better or to die.

What was the majority of people who went to the island. What did they leave behind when they died?   Many were Irish and they left there children orphaned. Many Canadiens would adopt the children but the children would keep there irish last names

Who were reformers and what did they want?   Reformers were people who wanted to change a political system for a good reason. In this case, the reformers wanted to change to government to a democratic one.

What type of government did British North America have? What did it mean?   They had a colonial government. That meant, that Britain chose people who had decision making power in the colonies.

What was the only thing the colony could vote for? What did it do?   The colony could only vote for the members that made up the assembly. The assembly had to decision making power but they could advise the governor and councils.

What does democratic government mean?   In a democracy, voters can elect the people who will have decision making power. so voters in a democracy have a lot of power because they choose the people that will represent them.

What were the reformers wanting to change?   THey wanted to change there colonial government into a democratic government.

Who was the third?   Joseph Howe? He was from Upper Canada and he believed the people in the colonies should have the same amount of power as the people living in Britain. To elect representatives who had more power than government officials.

What did Britain do?   Britain, instead of accommodating there wishes, tried to get them to move to Manitoulin Island, a rocky island near Lake Huron.
