Question
Answer
personal truth   What the Word of God has to say to me as I hear it, pray with it, read it, and/or reflect upon it.
🗑
scientific truth   The Biblical speakers and writers, spoke and wrote with the scientific knowledge of their day. There is a limited amount of "true" scientific fact in the Bible.
🗑
historical truth   Although not firstly historical, there is some historical truth in Scripture; there are also historical distortions to support a particular viewpoint or position.
🗑
proverbial truth   These are folksy, down-to-earth sayings such as those found in the book of Proverbs; they teach us how to choose responses to situations and how to view life itself or life-stages.
🗑
symbolic truth   Much of the truth in the Bible is told with symbols, parables, myths and allegories. We need to "read between the lines" or "read beyond the words" to discover truths which are found in those symbolic passages.
🗑
moral truth   This tells us what is right and wrong. All from Scripture must be understood both historically and in light of modern understanding.
🗑
religious truth   This pertains to the relationships people have with God and with one another. This also pertains to people's relationship to a primary community (Church/Synagogue). Aka "faith"--Scripture at its very core.
