Question
Answer
Compare and Contrast the workings of endocrine and exocrine glands   Endocrine glands secrete their hormones into the interstitial fluid which diffuses throughout the entire body via the blood stream. Exocrine glands secrete their hormones through ducts, which travel travel to organs or outside of the body.
🗑
Describe the role of target cells and receptor cells   A hormone only affects certain cells, known as target cells. Target cells get stimulated by having the hormone bind to receptors on the cell.
🗑
Identify the locations of receptor sites for lipid-soluble hormones and the process the hormone goes through to reach that site.   Lipid-soluble hormones bind to receptors w/in the target cell. Process: 1. Hormone enters cell 2. Binds to receptors Then these receptors either turn on or off specific genes 3. DNA is transcribed w/ new gene and mRNA produces new protein
🗑
Identify the locations of receptor sites for water-soluble hormones and the process the hormone goes through to reach that site.   Hormones bind to receptors on the plasma membrane. 1. Hormone binds to receptor 2. The cell then converts ATP into cyclic AMP(cAMP) 3. cAMP then activates certain enzymes 4. Enzymes then catalyze reactions that produce a response
🗑
Describe the three ways that hormone secretions are controlled.   1. Signals from the Nervous System 2. Chemical Changes in the blood 3. Other hormones
