What is the Prime Meridian and where is it located   An imaginary line that cuts Earth in half from the North Pole to the South Pole. The prime meridian is located at 0 degrees longitude.

Parallels of Latitude   The lines that circle Earth from west to east. The distance between parallel lines is always equal. The starting point for measuring parallels of latitude is the equator.

Maridians of Longitude   The lines that run from the North Pole to the South Pole. These lines are half-circles and are not parallels becasue they are not always the same distance apart. The starting point for measuring longitude is the prime meridian.

Hemispheres   Half spheres that divide Earth. The prime meridian divides Earth into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. The equator divides Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
