| Primary Dentition | the first 20 teeth of life which will be replaced by the permanent teeth.

| Permanent Dentition | the 32 teeth of the adult life which are designed to last a lifetime.

| Mixed Dentition | stage in which a child(ages 6-12) has both primary and permanent teeth.

| Bicuspid (premolar) | permanent dentition only; these posterior teeth are used for tearing and chewing. There are two in each quadrant.

| Molar | a large posterior tooth with a broad chewing surface. There are three in each quadrant.

| Wisdom Tooth (third molar) | the most posteriorly located molar.

| Single Root | teeth which have one root./ Lateral incisors, Cuspids, Maxillary 2nd Bicuspids, Mandibular Bicuspids.

| Double Root | teeth which have two roots.

||||
| Triple Root | teeth which have three roots.
🗑
|
||||
| Bifurcation | area on tooth where it divides into two roots.

| Trifurcation | area on tooth which divides into three roots.
